Asthma is a very common chronic disease involving the respiratory system in which the airways constrict, become inflamed, and are lined with excessive amounts of mucus, often in response to one or more triggers. These episodes may be triggered by such things as exposure to an environmental stimulant such as an allergen, environmental tobacco smoke, cold or warm air, perfume, pet dander, moist air, exercise or exertion, or emotional stress.
In children, the most common triggers are viral illnesses such as those that cause the common cold. This airway narrowing causes symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing.
Things to be done for asthma treatment :
1. Most of the known cases of Asthma keep ‘inhalers’ with them, which are easily available in any health department or with health service providers. These are devices which ensure direct delivery of the drugs to the lungs and thereby bringing about a rapid relief. In case of emergency, the patient has to be rushed to the nearest public health department or private health care center.
2. Avoiding known triggers which bring about an attack helps, like avoiding strenuous exercises, going out in the cold, etc.
