Studying Abroad – An overview of educational information in Asia

Overview: Asia is the largest of the seven continents. The continent has nearly 50 countries and can be broadly divided into six major regions as enumerated below. With about 3.3 billion people, Asia comprises nearly three fifths of the world’s total population.

The six major Asian regions, each possessing distinctive physical, cultural, economic, and political characteristics are Southwest Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia , East Asia, Russian Asia, Central Asia.

Languages Spoken: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Russian, Thai Vietnamese and other. Learning the appropriate language for a study abroad program is helpful for candidates applying for summer study abroad programs or study abroad scholarships.

Education System Information for study abroad candidates :

Most Asian Countries have a study abroad curriculum that includes required and elective courses which fall into two categories: general subjects, such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Economics and specialized subjects in which students acquire the knowledge necessary to conduct research in their particular faculty such as Medical, Engineering etc. The academic year usually begins in April, while graduation comes in March. Students under study abroad programs or even study abroad scholarship program are generally not allowed to enroll or graduate at any other time.

Often the academic year for study abroad candidates and others is divided into either two or three terms. There are university-designated vacations in the spring, summer and winter. The spring and summer vacations are nearly two months, while the winter vacation lasts approximately three weeks.

Eligibility Criteria – Exams to clear for study abroad programs : One has to give various tests to apply for study abroad programs. You will have to take at least one of the English proficiency test along with Graduate and Undergraduate Test for admission to any program. English Proficiency Tests like TOEFL, TSE and IELTS are to be cleared for study abroad programs.

GMAT is required for study abroad Business/Management Programs all over the world.
